The Spurs take a chance on "Killa Cam", add Reddish & James Johnson.

The Spurs are always on the lookout for promising young talent, and it's fair to say that Cameron Reddish hasn't yet been given enough time to shine in Atlanta and New York. The ex-Duke forward turned three-year pro, Reddish is 6'8" similar to that of fellow Duke alumni, Brandon Ingram, and is still just 22 years old. An athletic, streaky shooter, Cam has gone off for 34 points in the past, but has had some injury concerns over the years. The Knicks acquired him at last year's trade deadline, briefly gave him some run, then dropped from their rotation.

Reddish could also turn into a reliable option at the SF spot, behind Buddy Hield & Gary Trent, Jr. He has shown some defensive potential, but his motor has been troubling. No doubt, under Coach Popovich, Reddish will have to earn minutes and pay the consequences should he not show enough fire on the defensive end of the court, given that has been San Antonio's strongest weapon during their storied dynasty. Cam has been spotted putting in work at the Spurs training facility, since joining the team via trade in exchange for rookie prospect two-guard, Malaki Branham.

Reddish will be a restricted free agent at year's end, so hopefully it pans out and San Antonio can give him a new contract to further develop his raw talent. He may not see much time on the court, but the Spurs don't take chances for nothing and they are hoping Reddish earns a place in the Spurs future, as he definitely has all the potential and upside to make an impact. Reddish will wear #0 for San Antonio, signifying a restart to his young, injury bug-bit career.

To fill out the roster, the Spurs are adding a banger down low in the form of James Johnson, longtime Heat forward and defensive intimidator, who should pair nicely with Paul Millsap at the four. Johnson had a career-high seven makes from 3PT range, so he could contribute there as well but the Spurs will mostly look for his defensive presence, rebounding and toughness from the 6'8", 240lb second-degree Karate black belt.
